Behind Maezumou

Maezumou is built and maintained by a team of dedicated sumo enthusiasts who bring together expertise in data analysis, web development, and deep knowledge of sumo history and culture. Our diverse backgrounds unite under a shared passion: bringing the best of sumo to fans everywhere.

Our name, "Maezumou," holds special significance in sumo tradition. In the sumo world, "mae-zumou" (前相撲) represents the preliminary bouts where most wrestlers begin their journey—the true entry point to professional sumo. Just as mae-zumou serves as the gateway for aspiring rikishi, we've created Maezumou to be the entry point for sumo fans worldwide. The name combines "mae" (前) meaning "before" or "front," with "sumou" (相撲), honoring both the tradition of the sport and our mission to welcome newcomers while serving devoted followers.

We believe that sumo's appeal is universal—transcending borders, languages, and cultures. That's why we work tirelessly to create a resource that serves both seasoned fans and newcomers alike, building a global community connected by appreciation for this ancient sport.
