Upcoming Tournaments
Grand Sumo Tournaments (本場所, honbasho) are held six times a year, once every odd-numbered month. Each tournament lasts for 15 days, starting on the second Sunday of the month. Three tournaments are held at the Ryōgoku Kokugikan in Tokyo (January, May, and September), and one each in Osaka (March), Nagoya (July), and Fukuoka (November).

Schedule Information
Advanced Ticket Sales
Around five weeks before each tournament begins, tickets will be made available. All 15 days go on sale at the same time and popular days (especially weekends) sell out quickly. If you intend to purchase tickets to a very popular day, remember that the dates shown are based on Japan Standard Time.
Banzuke Announcement
The banzuke (official ranking list) is typically announced about two weeks before each tournament. This determines the match-ups and rankings of all wrestlers participating in the tournament.
Tournament Structure
Each grand tournament (honbasho) lasts for 15 days, with wrestlers in the top two divisions fighting once each day. The wrestler with the best record at the end of the 15 days is declared the tournament champion.
